About

Hugh & Kim

We have always been dog lovers, but upon meeting this breed of dog, something made us want to share our love and passion for this breed with others. It is an honor and privilege to be an advocate and ambassador for this rare breed here in the US. We were lucky to have been mentored by some well respected, smart breeders that have helped us every step of the way in this amazing journey. Puppies are raised in our home using puppy culture and lots of socialization. All of our breeding dogs are fully health tested for all issues prevalent in our breed and those that don’t meet the standards are not used, they are retired and spayed or neutered. We show our dogs in conformation and most of our breeding dogs are championed or grand championed by the time they are used in our breeding program. We love the time we spend getting to know each and every puppy we raise, but the icing on the cake is is helping families find the perfect dog for their family and seeing their joy on the day they pickup their new puppy. It makes all of the hard work so fulfilling. Our relationships with our families don’t end on the day they pickup their puppies, it continues as long as the family wants it to. We love being there for questions, seeing pictures, helping with referrals, etc. To further that goal, we have established a meet up group open to all Lagotti owners in the greater Chicagoland area. Our first get together was in July of 2022 and was considered a great success. Everyone enjoyed showing off their dogs with their fellow Lagotti owners.

The kennel name

Our business name is Chicago Lagotto but our kennel name is Newbliss. Admittedly, we are not the most creative when it comes to business names. Our other business is a commercial cleaning business and we called it HK Facility Services. (Short for Hugh/Kim) However, we are very proud of our kennel name as it has special meaning to us. Unlike our furry friends Italian heritage, we both have an Irish heritage. My husband, Hugh, being born and raised on a farm in a small village in Ireland called Newbliss. My roots go back further but we are both proud to be Irish. His experience working on a farm that raised cattle has given him a unique skill that has been so helpful for us in learning how to whelp and raise puppies. He calfed many a cow while working on a farm so animal husbandry comes naturally to him and he has a gift when it comes to delivering puppies and caring for newborns. Besides loving to work with the animals, we absolutely love working with the families who are getting their new additions. There is nothing like the feeling on pickup day of placing that little puppy in the arms of the expectant family. People always ask me if I’m sad to be saying goodbye to the puppies when they go to their new homes, but I am never sad. It is always such a joyful occasion. I choose their new homes carefully and have so much excitement for the families that will be getting them that it is always a blissful occasion, which ties back to our kennel name of Newbliss.
